What makes a great trip? I believe the definition of a great trip would change from person to person. If you are a regular reader of my blog you already know about the recent Udaipur travel tour we made. There are a series of posts on my blog already that tell you about the different places we visited during our trip. It was a great trip, something that both I and Sarah would remember. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Do you ever\nrealize that deciding the destination is the hardest thing to do? Now, Sarah\nand I are not travelling extensively throughout the year, but we do what we\ncould afford. No one is paying our bills, but us. However, choosing one place\nbecomes a hard task. Should we choose the mountains or the beach, the northern\nside or down south? The choices are endless, but our budget isn\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, what\u2019s\nUdaipur travel has to do with all this, you ask? Well, I\u2019m coming to that\npoint. The reason I\u2019m writing all this is that I\nbelieve eventually every great trip becomes memorable because of the \u2018people\u2019.\nYes, there are people who like to escape from the cacophony of life, but then\nyou end up meeting a few people on your\njourney. Hence, when you return home these \u2018people\u2019 become part of your travel memories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you\nbrowse the internet, I\u2019m sure you will find plenty of sites talking about\nplaces to visit in Udaipur and local attractions. However, you find practically\nnone about these \u2018people\u2019 that are in some way work \u2018behind the scenes\u2019 to give\nyou that overall experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Airbnb
Hello Udaipur<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Speaking of\npeople let me tell you that both I and Sarah are not exactly people-friendly\nindividuals. We are reserved to an extent and hence we were really apprehensive\nabout using the Airbnb option. Hotels are\nperfect for us because we book, we pay, we live and we check out, but they\u2019re\nexpensive. Also, we wanted to try the AirBnB experience so we reluctantly\nbooked our first homestay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our\nUber Drivers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even before we got to our AirBnB homestay<\/a> we had our first share of interaction with the Uber drivers. We would say most Uber drivers in Udaipur are friendly, communicative and willing to share their thoughts and experiences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our Uber ride was really good and convenient.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Back in Mumbai, Uber drivers answer your questions, if you ask any, but that\u2019s about it. Udaipur Uber drivers proactively offered us plenty of local insights that helped us plan our Udaipur travel trip better. You see the difference here?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note<\/strong>: We would recommend Uber over local taxis when you are touring different city attractions. However, please note that not all drivers are fluent in English, or use GPS. Also, not all locations in Udaipur have good GPS connectivity.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Samir,\nShruti and Aunty Shuri – Our AirBnB Hosts<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our first\ninteraction with Samir, Shruti and Aunty Shuri was more than enough to drive\nour apprehensions away. Yes, before booking we had read the reviews and\ntestimonials on David\u2019s Bungalow AirBnB page. However, it was only when we met\nthem personally that we were confident that this trip was going to be good.\nThey only made our Udaipur travel trip memorable in many unexpected ways. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While we\nwere generally not at home most part of the day but we had our moments. We were\nquite overwhelmed by the kindness, care and love that we received. For that, we\ndon\u2019t have words to explain. We felt like we\u2019re visiting our relatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nitesh –\nThe Zipper Repair Guy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

How often does one write about the zipper repair guy? Our Udaipur travel was our window into the lives of people we don\u2019t know, yet they made a place in our memory. Shortly, after our arrival in Udaipur, we had a broken zipper issue. Since we were new to the area we asked Samir about travel bag zipper repair shop. Luckily it wasn\u2019t far from our location and here I met Nitesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nitesh manages Mohan Seat Cover and Bag Repair<\/em> store on the Bedla Road in Fatehpura. He and his father own a tiny shop but he was very helpful. Also, he replaced the broken zipper on the backpack with some excellent quality ones. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We had some great conversations about our lifestyle and career. While talking to him, I realised the power of goodness. He not just fixed the zipper issue he made my day with all his positive and kind words. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pushpendra\n\u2013 Our guide and friend<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next\nmorning we had plans to meet Pushpendra who owns Walk and Pedal Travel Tours. We\nhad arranged a bicycle\ntour in Udaipur<\/a> and Daboo\nprinting<\/a> tour. He also arranged the Jagdish\nTemple<\/a> and City\nMarket<\/a> tour. Also, our Upre\nby 1559 AD<\/a> experience would not have been possible without Pushpendra\u2019s\nsupport. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even before\nwe met, I had a certain mental image of Pushpendra mainly because of his\nacademic excellence and higher educational qualifications. However, his down to\nearth persona proved me wrong completely. He just made me realized that people\nin Udaipur, no matter the financial status or educational qualifications are\njust so loving and caring at heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The best\nthing I liked about him is that in a time when most Indians are willing to\nsettle abroad, he is utilizing all his foreign education qualifications and his\nskills and knowledge to start his business where his roots are. I wish him all\nthe luck and success in his endeavours\nahead. We thank Pushpendra for making our Udaipur travel experience better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Natwar \u2013\nOur City Palace Guide<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While City\nPalace is the most popular local attraction in Udaipur it was almost the final\ndestination on our Udaipur travel list. We wanted to save the best for the\nlast. Natwar was assigned to us as the official City Palace\ntour<\/a> guide and we really enjoyed his company for an hour. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Being a\nregistered guide for the City Palace he had plenty of knowledge about the\nPalace. He was patient because I and Sarah took plenty of pictures and\nsometimes we take a lot of time to take the shots we want. At times, Sarah has her\nown perspective of how she wants to shoot the picture. So, we take turns and\nthat can be time-consuming. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However,\nthe best part about him was his sense of humour.\nBeing a history person myself, I know it can quickly turn boring. Hence, it is\nvital that you share historic details with some level of fun and humour. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He asked me to try opening the door which in reality is a brick wall.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

As we were\ncircling the corridors of the palace he played some practical jokes on me,\nwhich might upset someone, but I was glad he did. It did make me seem like a\nfool but honestly, I enjoyed it.\nSometimes, you must know how to laugh at your own foolishness, mustn\u2019t you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conclusion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, what makes a city a city? It\u2019s the people, right? Of course, there is so much to see around the city, plenty to eat and even places to shop. However, in true sense travel experiences are all about meeting new people on your way, understanding their way of life, culture, traditions, history and much more. I also believe Udaipur is a great place for winter honeymoon in India<\/a>. So, if you are planning your honeymoon you can always try Udaipur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We spent\nnine days in Udaipur exploring the city attractions, eating local food,\nexploring different facets of the city. However, what captured our attention\nthe most was the simplicity of the people of Udaipur. This is what never makes\nit to the blogs and travel magazines. We thank the people of Udaipur in making\nthose nine days memorable forever. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
